Vocals -"The Chic Vocalist", Cherryn started her career in Sydney, growing with a solid foundation in Jazz music. She continued to study Popular & Classical music and obtained a Grad Dip in Teaching. Cherryn became a resident performer on Russian Cruise Ships for a year, but still wished to pursue performing and writing 90’s dance music, which led to a promotion and distribution deal with Sony Music. Her band “Sexing the Cherry” enjoyed success in the Aria charts, touring Australia and backing international artists such as Robbie Williams, “M-People”, “Coca-Cola Take 40 Australia”, twice, touring Australia and major Dance Festivals including Big Day Out. The single “Steppin’ On” enjoyed much success on various CD compilations as well as videos. Embracing the great sound of Big Bands, she has worked with “Swing Fever” alongside Max Miller, "Andrews Sisters Tribute", “Glenn Miller Tribute Band”, “Brisbane Big Band” and Les Wilson's Swing Force Big Band.
Sebastiaan Scholtens
Vocals - Sebastiaan Born in The Netherlands, moved to Australia in 2002. From a very early age started to sing and act. This was no surprise, as Sebastiaan comes from a very musical family. His grandmother was a professional opera singer, who sang with the likes of Maria Callas. He played the guitar and trumpet but soon discovered his true talent lay in his voice and then went on to form his own band in The Hague. After moving to Australia and headlining a monthly Swing Dance show The Jive Lounge, Sebastiaan has became well known all up and down the East Coast as an exceptionally versatile singer, specializing in Swing, Jazz, Rock n Roll and Rockabilly.He always draws a crowd and has worked with greats such as Greg Lyon, Jim Kelly and Martha Baartz and now as the front man for The Well Swung Daddies. Sebastiaan has also performed in shows such as the Rat Pack Show. This show was a huge success and in a review, it was said of Sebastiaan, that "he absolutely made the show with his Dean Martin role". Other reviews have said: "The musician, what can I say other than yay!!!!! He has a real love of performing and this came through. He hardly stopped the whole night in adverse conditions. Big thumbs up."
Mick Buckley
Vocals - Mick Buckley multi talented first found fame as the rockin' drummer for successful rock band The Radiators, recording platinum & gold selling albums and playing Concert Tours & Festivals worldwide. He fronted and was lead vocalist for Sydney outfits School for Scandal & the Big Heat. As one of Sydney's most popular piano bar players he toured the USA, playing residencies in Bourbon St, New Orleans, Nashville Tennessee and firing up for Smokey Robinson at the Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing Michigan. Some of Mick’s bands are The Radiators, Mud Crab Boogie, Harlem Shuffle, Hi Home I'm Honey, The Yee Haa Boys, Hughie & The Swing Thing, Rupert B, Richard Wilkins Band, The Swing & Lisa Hunt to name just a few. He has grown up listening to the big band swing of Frank Sinatra, Cab Calloway and Louie Jordan and unleashes his rhythmic vocal style on the big Daddies sound.
Eddie Bray
Eddie Bray - Eddie served as a professional musician for 20 years with the Australian Defence Force Bands. A career highlight was his posting to the Australian Defence School of Music as the Saxophone and Clarinet Woodwind Specialist Teacher. For “Outstanding service to the Band of the Royal Military College Duntroon” Canberra, Eddie was awarded an Australia Day Medalion.
Steve McLeod
Guitar - Steve McLeod relocated to the North Coast 10 years ago to complete a music degree at SCU Lismore. He has performed professionally with many Australian and international acts, such as The Flying Burrito Bros', The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Jeff Lang, Sara Storer, Chain and Phil Manning, and recently with Laura Noble.
Steve Sax
Baritone Sax - Steve Sax played trumpet as a teenager in the local town band & orchestra. Playing baritone with the Daddies has fulfilled his lifelong desire to play Big Band Swing recreating all the music and fashion of the big band swing era. Steve, Laurie and Andy Hills met in 2005, when playing in the Lismore Conservatorium Band and have remained firm friends ever since. They are united in their quest to recreate the music of a bye gone era, the sound of a brass section and bring back the swing to Australian audiences.
Derek Siddon
Trumpet - Derek Siddon has played in a variety of bands in Australia as a professional Trumpet Player. Derek is the author of "A time to improvise" and educational jazz improvisation book. Derek has performed at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and performed bugle calls for the local RSL sub branch squeezing out the odd double high C.
Wally Kafoa
Drums - Wally is a Tweed, Byron local who has worked across many genres of music including some of the country’s biggest names in show biz. He has played honky-tonk blues for Winifred Atwell, Jazz with the legendary Ricky May was MD for the Delltones & played he blues with The Drifters. Wally has also been a member of the John Gardiner Jazz Orchestra & many other big bands. Wally’s has skills, energy and versatility in many genres and styles and knows how to get you on the dance floor.
Justin Pfeiffer
Double Bass - Justin Pfeiffer brings a driving force to the rhythm section on Upright (Double) Bass and Electric Bass Guitar, Justin Pfeiffer is an accomplished musician adept in a versatile array of musical genres from Jazz, Blues, to Funk,Rock-a-billy and Country. A versatile “Doubler,” Justin jumps between Bass Guitar and Double Bass to suit. Beginning on guitar at the young age of 7, then switching to bass at 13, Jazz-trained Justin’s musical career now spans 40 years exclusively on Bass. Originally from Adelaide, the late 80’s took Justin to Japan returning to Australia, Sydney in 2000, Justin now calls the Gold Coast Home. Justin can be regularly seen playing bass and singing for a variety of original and covers bands from the Sunshine Coast to the Northern Rivers.
Josh Booyens
Trombone - Joshua Booyens specialises in lower brass from Tenor Bone down to Tuba. Some of our fans find Trombone sexy in the same way finding your parents making love is sexy, what do you think? Josh comes from a classical background, and performed regularly at the Sydney Opera House, he also plays, MD's and is President of the Lismore Symphony Orchestra. Although classically trained he sure knows how to swing in that big band style and with his classical good looks he was born to wear the pinstripe suit - The Daddies are a natural fit for Josh's sense of fun and playfulness and he sure knows how to play that horn!
Andy Hills
Tenor Sax and Clarinet - Andrew Hills has been playing as a professional musician in a variety of styles from punk to funk, gypsy to swing, circus and Big Bands since his time studying at the Lismore Conservatorium Arts Center. Andrew is an accomplished performer and a trained musician with an infectious energy for performing and brings his experience and passion for funk, swing and soul musical genres to the band adding his style and therefore complimenting that great sound of the Daddies.
Phil Shepherd
Piano - Phil Sheperd started studying classical piano in England at the age of 7. At 35 phil attained his diploma of music at Lismore Conservatorium, and then commenced traveling between England and Australia to perform in a variety of rock bands. He has since played in a number of music ensembles including folk bands, jazz bands, rock bands and stage musicals such as Superstar. Playing with the Daddies is a great opportunity for Phil to explore his musical talents, and to enjoy those Big Band sounds.
